Mattias Gollin For Less: Vans Turned A $750 Collab Into $100 General Release

Mattias Gollin’s Vans releases have been some of the hardest-to-cop collaborations in the sneaker world these past few years, the Italian creative dropping a string of small-batch styles featuring elaborate, masterful pearl and crystal art to much acclaim from fashion and footwear circles. Now Vans has come out with a new release that might just fool someone from afar… sort of.

Available now on the Vans website is a new checkerboard Authentic LX style featuring black sequins, glittering just enough to pass for a Mattias Gollin collaboration at a glance. We won’t insult our readership by suggesting a $100 general release can measure up to a $750 pair featuring real pearls and crystals, but from a pure aesthetic standpoint, there’s certainly a comparison to be made.
