The Air Jordan 1 Mid Goes Loafer Mode

We’ve been documenting the blurring lines between formalwear and streetwear for years at this point. The paragon of that movement is the New Balance 204L, but truly every major player has gotten on the board, a testament to the growing demand (or willingness) to deploy typically stuffy footwear in casual settings.

If a shoe like the Air Jordan Mule is a bridge too far, the Jumpman has just the prescription. The Air Jordan 1 Mid at hand doesn’t entirely reshape itself to fit formal applications, but instead takes existing hallmarks and reshapes them for a gussied-up purpose. Wingtip detailing on the toe, serrated leather edges, tasseled attachments, thin leather laces, and a remodeled perforation pattern demonstrate how Beaverton designers were willing to get creative for the task. More traditional touches like a golden Wings logo and a gum outsole lean on well-established hallmarks from Nike, Inc. that’ve helped imbue a classy atmosphere for decades.
