Love the Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro? Wait Until You See These 24 Burgundy Bags

I can justify a new bag fairly easily; I’ve been doing it for 22 years. This probably surprises no one. But even I appreciate when a bag makes the argument for itself, and right now, burgundy is doing a very good job. Sometimes the right color presents itself as needing a place in my bag rotation, and burgundy is front and center. I’d like to thank the iPhone 18 Pro in part for that, because the hottest accessory inside of our bags is also here to say that burgundy is the color of the moment.

It has everything I want in a fall bag color. It’s rich, it’s beautiful in leather and suede, and it works with so much of what I already wear. I get the satisfaction of choosing a color with approximately the same amount of outfit planning that goes into carrying a brown bag. Which is to say, very little.

That feels like a fairly strong case already. Unfortunately for my restraint, there are also a lot of very good burgundy bags to choose from.

Why Burgundy Bags Feel So Right This Fall

Burgundy is having a moment, and even Apple is participating with its new Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro. I suspect seeing the color on something so many of us look at all day only adds to its appeal. Personally, I would rather spend my time debating which burgundy bag to buy, but I appreciate the coordination.

The appeal goes well beyond something being new, though. Burgundy has always felt right for fall, with its shades of red wine and ripe grapes. It has depth to it. Depending on the leather and the light, the same bag can look dark and understated one minute, then reveal a beautiful red or purple undertone the next.

That is part of what makes shopping this color so tempting. A smooth leather shoulder bag in a deep wine shade has a very different feel from a slouchy suede tote in a warmer burgundy. You can have a preference within the color, which is how I find myself explaining why several bags that someone else might call “the same color” are, in fact, quite different.

I stand by this.

What Colors Go With a Burgundy Bag?

Burgundy bags pair easily with black, brown, camel, cream, gray, navy, and denim. For me, that versatility puts burgundy firmly in the neutral category, even if it technically isn’t one. But there is no need to keep it as a ‘safe’ neutral; you can also opt to use it with bright colors. Because at this point, if I feel like wearing color, I’m wearing it.

My favorite pairing is burgundy and gray. There is something about a deep wine-colored bag against a gray sweater or coat that makes me want the entire outfit. Chocolate brown is another beautiful option, and camel brings out the warmth in the color.

Then there’s black, which is probably the most useful pairing of all. On a day when you put on black pants and a black top and call it done, a burgundy bag gives you one more thing to enjoy about the outfit. You don’t need to change anything else.

And you certainly don’t need to save it for a fully realized fall wardrobe. I live in South Florida. If I waited for coat weather to carry a fall bag, we would have a problem. Burgundy looks just as good with jeans and a white shirt as it does with all the knitwear I wish I had more opportunities to wear.

25 Burgundy Bags to Carry This Fall

For this roundup, I was drawn to the range within burgundy as much as the color itself. Some shades lean red, others have a purple undertone, and the deepest versions can look almost brown. The material makes a difference, too, with suede, grained leather, and smooth finishes each bringing something different to the color.

Below, 25 burgundy bags worth a closer look. If you have been wanting a colorful bag but know you will always reach for the one that goes with everything, this is where I would start.
