Is The Row Agnes Bag the New Margaux?

A luxury staple and favorite of style stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jennifer Garner, and more, The Margaux became one of the hardest bags to snag in 2024, selling out almost everywhere and racking up quite a premium on the resale market.

Yet the bag was nothing new. In fact, it has been around since 2018, first debuting for the Fall season. Still, it didn’t reach widespread ubiquity until late 2023, when the rise of the quiet luxury movement catapulted The Row Margaux to widespread popularity, reaching a peak in 2024.

The Margaux Effect: When Quiet Luxury Goes Mainstream

Its classic shape, effortless slouch, and “if you know, you know” appeal, coupled with inevitable waitlists, likened the Margaux to the Birkin in its heyday, when the bag’s reputation wasn’t damaged by mass appeal and the *whispers* influencer epidemic.

It was one of the most-wanted bags of 2024, with many dubbing the bag the next Birkin—and that is precisely what halted The Margaux’s production in its tracks: the idea that the Margaux had reached mass appeal.

After all, is a bag really quiet anymore if everybody knows what it is? As was to be expected, The Row shifted its strategy with the Margaux following its massive boom after years of remaining mostly under the radar, with limited production and a scarcity model not all that dissimilar to Hermès.

Why Everyone Is Talking About The Row Agnes Bag

So what’s a fashion girlie who doesn’t want to play the game or pay a premium on resale to do? Enter, The Row Agnes Bag.

The Row Agnes Bag first debuted in 2025 in the smaller, more compact 12 size. Then, for Spring 2026, the line was expanded, and The Row introduced the Agnes 15, featuring the same distinct shape in a larger size.

The Agnes bag is The Row’s take on the classic vintage bowler, featuring a flat base, soft folds, and a structured-meets-relaxed vibe that is quickly becoming a favorite among the fashion set. Its tubular handles allow for top-handle wear, but the bag will also sit comfortably in the crook of the arm.

The spacious interior of the 15 allows for day-to-day wear and makes it the chicest office bag ever, while the 12 is perfect for day-to-night carry. What’s most interesting about the Agnes is its exaggerated, curved zipper. Like most bags by The Row, the bag is defined by its simplicity, with small, distinct details that make it noticeable, plus high-quality leather and materials.

The Agnes, which debuted in grained calfskin leather (though it was later introduced in saddle leather) versus the smooth leather of the Margaux, makes for a more durable but just as sleek daily carry, and it’s already shaping up to be one of fall’s most-wanted bags.
